For centuries, gold artisans in Kyoto have long used abaca leaf paper to protect the precious gold they hammered into whisper-thin leafing. Geisha discovered these papers were incredibly soft, strong and absorbent, and repurposed these papers to wick away traces of oil without disturbing their exquisite makeup or stealing moisture from their skin. This simple yet elegant beauty secret became the Original Aburatorigami, Tatcha’s very first rediscovery.
